Update Your Résumé On the Fly

When you've been at a job or on an assignment for a few months and have a good sense of your responsibilities, add your major tasks and accomplishments to your résumé. It's much easier to do it that way than to wait for the job or assignment to be complete. If you pay attention to what you're accomplishing while you're doing it—and write it down at that time—you won't need to try and recall it months or years after the fact. (Plus, you may be pleasantly surprised by how much you actually have accomplished!) This practice has the additional benefit of helping you to focus on what matters: producing results. For example, my own résumé says in reference to one position, “Counseled 100+ students in packaging and marketing themselves; achieved over 98% placement rate in summer internships.”
