Make a Sandwich

Doesn’t playing hard make you hungry—for more art, of course? Make yourself a sandwich. And what is a sandwich but something put between two layers?

TECHNIQUE ONE: Envelope It

CUBED

Sandra Duran Wilson

Take transparency film leftovers and painted book pages and sandwich some leftover collage papers, thread, gold leaf crumbles, a ribbon or whatever tickles you in between them. Seal with spray adhesive or repositionable sheet adhesive. Or seal the edges with staples or ventilation tape for a more industrial look.

TECHNIQUE TWO: Fuse It

Step 1

Take two pieces of fusible web that perhaps you had painted or printed on and add cut-up paper, gold leaf crumbles, cut-up words or numbers—whatever inspires you—and place between the two pieces of fusible web.

Step 2

Put the layers between pieces of parchment paper and heat with a dry iron to fuse.

You may apply this piece directly to your work, or for an even more diffused look, scan it or copy it and use as a transfer or collage.
