Painting on Mylar and transparencies is double the fun because you have two sides to work with! You create instant depth by painting on both the front and back.
TECHNIQUE ONE: Paint and Print
Print a laser/toner image onto transparency film. Paint on both sides, letting each side dry before painting the reverse. Cut up and use it in a collage or glue it to your surface of choice.

TECHNIQUE TWO: Give It Depth
You can paint on Mylar with acrylic—lightly sand it first with a fine-grit sandpaper or use a clear gesso before painting to assure adhesion. You can paint (like I did here), collage, transfer, apply gold leaf and/or stamp on both sides. Flip it back and forth to see which side you like best. Adhere to a painted background for instant depth (my background is painted and collaged). If you use a matte medium to adhere the Mylar to the background, you get a waxy finish.
