TIME MANAGEMENT

I don't need [more] time; I need a deadline.

—Edward Kennedy “Duke” Ellington, Composer, Pianist, and Bandleader (1899–1974)

Given that these days, everyone's a freelancer—kind of like free agents in professional sports, only not as well paid—it's essential that people treat themselves as a business. Managing money and managing time are the same: You're allocating scarce resources to achieve the desired result in support of that business.

Just as you need to become more conscious and disciplined about money, you need to develop great time-management skills and learn to prioritize your commitments in what's becoming a world in which you are (or will be) busier and busier to focus on the tasks that support your goals. This chapter covers practices you will want to adopt to empower yourself to consistently produce the results you want in your career(s).
