Summary

This hour looked at the architecture of SharePoint 2010 and the changes installing SharePoint 2010 makes to your environment. The integration of SharePoint 2010 with ASP.NET and the configuration changes required for SharePoint were discussed, as well as the 14 Hive folder structure and the various important virtual directories. This hour explored database configurations and the SharePoint hierarchy; timer jobs and service applications also were discussed.

Hopefully you have a good understanding of the SharePoint architecture. By now you have done enough exploring of theoretical concepts and are probably ready to do some practical tasks. That’s what you do in the next two hours. In Hour 3 you jump into coding, and in Hour 4 you take a quick tour of SharePoint 2010 and then learn a lot of practical lessons.
