Using the Image Editor

You can also create your own images using the Image Editor. The Image Editor provides all the tools you need to create your own drawings and then format them. Many of the tools found in StarOffice Draw are also available in the Image Editor.

Note

Any graphic that you insert into a spreadsheet can actually be edited to some extent using the Image Editor. The file type will dictate what kind of changes you can make to the graphic. OLE objects will have to be edited in the server application in which they were created.

To Insert a Graphic from the Image Editor

1.
Place the cursor in the location where you want the graphic to be inserted in your document.

2.
Choose Insert, point at Graphics, then select From Image Editor to open the New Image dialog box (see Figure 11.4).

Figure 11.4. Select the size and number of colors for the new image.

3.
Enter the Default Width, Height, and select the number of colors (you can easily change the width and height later).

4.
Click the Create button to activate the Image toolbar. The Image toolbar contains typical drawing tools like a pen and an airbrush and tools for creating lines, rectangles, and ellipses. Click a tool on the toolbar as needed to create the various parts of the image.

5.
You can control the color of a particular tool by selecting a color on the color palette (at the bottom of the workspace) and then selecting the tool.

6.
When you have finished drawing the image, click anywhere outside the image to return to the spreadsheet.

To Edit an Image Editor Graphic

You can also edit any image that you create with the Image Editor. The image is really inserted as an OLE object, which means that when you double-click on the object, the server or parent application is started. When you are working on an Image Editor graphic, all the menu selections and toolbars found in the workspace are for the Image Editor.

You can click once on an image to select it and then drag it to a new location in the spreadsheet or use the sizing handles to change the height and width of the image. To actually edit the image in the Image Editor, double-click on the image or right-click on the image and select Edit from the context menu.
