Setting Row Heights

Row heights can be adjusted, as can column widths. This can be useful in cases where you use a large font size on information in the row or wish to wrap a large amount of text in a particular cell (which is discussed in the next chapter).

You can double-click on the border between a row and the row below it to select an optimal row height for text, values, or other objects (such as graphics) that you place in a particular cell or cell row. You can also drag a row's border to change the row height.

As with column width settings, you are provided two dialog boxes for setting row heights. The Row Height dialog box allows you to set the row height for a row or rows using a spin box.

Select the Format menu, point at Row, then select Height to open the Height spinner box (see Figure 3.19). You can set a new default height for the rows, or deselect the default value and use the click arrows to set a new height for the selected row or rows.

Figure 3.19. You set the height for a row or rows using the Row Height dialog box.

If you wish to change the amount of additional spacing provided when using the optimal setting for a row's height (double-clicking on a row border and accommodating the tallest entry in that row), select the Format menu, point at Row, then select Optimal Height. Use the spinner box to set the amount of additional spacing that will be provided when the row is optimally formatted.

Note

When you select rows or columns, you are in effect selecting a cell range. You can also format rows and columns using cell attributes (via the Object toolbar or the Cell Attributes dialog box).
