Chapter 8

Building Hyper-V Clusters

The definition of a cluster is a group of servers and associated shared storage that work together and can be accessed as a single system. The individual nodes of the cluster act together to distribute the workloads running on the cluster and to provide for the automatic recovery from failure of one or more components within the cluster. Hyper-V itself has no clustering capability and relies on close integration with Windows Failover Clustering to provide such services.

In this chapter, you’ll learn about

  • The basics of Failover Clustering
  • Configuring Cluster Shared Volumes
  • Integrating BitLocker into a failover cluster
  • Implementing Cluster-Aware Updating
  • Making a virtual machine highly available
  • Configuring the various availability scenarios
