Conclusion

Dear Reader,

Congratulations on making it through this chapter. I hope you had some fun.

We’ve taken a look into what kinds of things a CMS system does. Basically, what a CMS does is to automate many of the things that would require you to manually work with files in a traditional system. If you’re skeptical about the room for error in a traditional website, using manually created HTML code, I’d be glad to tell you some ghost stories.

My general recommendation is to learn just enough HTML to develop respect for it; you’ll still want to know a bit of it. It’s not that HTML is fraught with difficulty—it’s more that the process of working with all the files, uploading them, and managing them is challenging. And these days, it is becoming less and less necessary to create a manual website at all. Facebook, Gmail, Blogger—all of these websites are basically custom CMS systems that allow you to get on the Internet and add content, automatically handling a lot for you.

Regards,

Todd
