Conclusion

Dear Reader,

Congratulations on making it through the “Social Promotion” chapter!

I think the most important thing in promoting a site, especially on social networks, is content. I think it can be all too easy to get caught up in technique and buzz and technology, and then forget that all the promotion in the world is not going to help much if you don’t have a steady stream of content.

Of course, if you’re interested in learning social networking, or social media marketing, for having a new or expanded career skill set, then if you have fun doing it, the content doesn’t matter as much. What matters is that you’re having fun and learning new things. Still, at the very least, my overall recommendation is to work toward getting together 12 articles on your Drupal site before doing much in the way of social promotion. Then, at a minimum, you can make a fresh post monthly.

Another option that is worth considering is if you’re a tech person, you can concentrate on the technical part, find other people to collaborate on the writing, and then others to do the social media promotion. Or if you’re more interested in the marketing, it probably is worth trying your hand at actually writing material, but you could just as easily find people to collaborate on the writing part, and then you could concentrate on the promotion.

Regardless of how you approach it, you can always barter. For example, if you know the tech side, help a writer with his or her site, and maybe that person will write something for you. Or learn marketing and help market a writer’s site, and maybe he or she will write something for you. Woohoo! I love collaboration.

If your appetite is whetted for social promotion, the next chapter is worth reading because we’ll take a look at making advertisements on Facebook and Google Adwords. You might enjoy running a few ads for fun, even if you’re not selling something on your site. But if you are interested in actually selling something, then at some point you’ll probably want to become familiar with placing ads—even if you end up working with a marketing person.

Best wishes in promoting your site!

Regards,

Todd
