Introduction

As you may have noticed, by default, Drupal comes with little or no formatting capability when you’re creating articles. Without any additional changes, in order to do formatting, you might need to learn HTML or to use one of the workarounds (such as composing in blogger and copying the HTML code).

A “rich editor” makes it easier to do formatting, with a single click, where you can select text, make it bold, and have any number of standard formatting features with the click of a button. In Drupal, in order to accomplish this, you need to install extra modules. In Drupal, you also need to install a module in order to be able to upload images. As mentioned, you can get around this by uploading or composing entire posts in Blogger and just copying the HTML code over.

Some may want to forgo the modules discussed in this chapter, and just go with regular text formatting and upload a single image using the built-in capability.

But my recommendation is to try installing these modules, because if you can get them working, you’ll probably only need to do it once. Then you’ll have an easier way to compose and format content, which will make it easier for others to do so on your site.

Because the modules are often subject to change, and because Drupal 7 itself is still evolving, I can’t guarantee that you’ll get them working, but I invite you to try, and then if it is important, go as far as you can and hire someone to figure it out.
