Shapes

Shape is represented with the  icon.

When you select Shape in the Mark type menu, Tableau uses an empty circle by default and the Shape property (the boxes beneath the Mark Type menu) becomes available. To use a Shape, drag and drop a Dimension in the Shape property and each value gets a different Shape:

In the preceding example, we sort the sub-categories by sales, and we add the segment in the Shape property. So, for each Sub-Category, we can see the contribution of each segment. You can discover that it's always the Consumer segment that is the best in term of sales, then Corporate in second, and Home Office last.

Wait, there's more! Shapes are among the best features to customize your visualization and create something unique. You can add any custom shapes you want in Tableau. You'll learn how to do that in the next section. 

Unlike Shapes, a table is not very exciting. However, if you want to create one, you need to use Text.
