HP-UX 11i Performance and Scalability

One of the hallmarks of the UNIX-based HP-UX 11i is the ability to maintain high performance levels, even when scaled up to a huge enterprise environment. HP-UX 11i performance scalability derives from several attributes of the basic operating system, including the ability to efficiently support processors of different performance levels and high levels of multiprocessing. It also supports a large range of memory sizes, from megabytes to hundreds of gigabytes, and a file system size of up to 2 terabytes.

These attributes allow HP-UX 11i to function effectively and efficiently on systems ranging from workstations and low-end servers up to very high-end servers. Benchmark results show that HP-UX 11i scales very efficiently for up to 64 processors. Additionally, HP-UX 11i is designed for future scaling up to 256 processors in a single system, and work continues to ensure that potential performance hotspots in the operating system are eliminated. Figure 11-4 shows the scalability of HP-UX 11i with the Broadvision e-commerce application compared to some other leading systems.
