HP-UX 11i Availability

HP-UX 11i has been recognized for many years as a leader in systems high in availability. HP provides a range of solutions that address varying levels of disaster protection requirements:

• HP Campus Clusters: Campus Cluster solutions create high availability (HA) enterprise clusters with HP 9000 Enterprise Servers up to 10 kilometers apart, offering data and service interruption protection caused by fires and other disasters at a data center.

• HP MetroCluster: MetroCluster reduces business downtime to minutes in the event of system failures or such disasters as fires, grid power outages, and localized floods. Each MetroCluster solution creates a single highly manageable HA cluster with up to 16 HP 9000 Enterprise Servers located as far as 40 kilometers apart, integrating MC/ServiceGuard cluster technology with HP Continuous Access XP or EMC's Symmetrix Remote Data Facility (SRDF)—online, host-independent, data replication solutions.

• HP ContinentalClusters: ContinentalClusters solutions offer fast, simple data recovery between two data centers located anywhere on the planet—offering protection against data loss even during the most severe catastrophes, including earthquakes, floods, and tornadoes.

• The Veritas Journaled File System (JFS): This is included standard with every copy of HP-UX 11i. The Veritas JFS provides efficient, full journaling capability that protects the integrity of both files and the file system. This differs from other journaling implementations that guarantee the consistency of the file system but make no effort to protect the consistency of the files themselves. The full journaling of the Veritas JFS uses transaction logging to ensure the consistency of the files and the file system.

• Autoport Aggregation: HP-UX 11i offers an add-on capability known as Autoport Aggregation allows multiple networking links to appear as one networking link, thus increasing capacity and providing redundancy. If one of the links fails in a group of links that have been Autoport-aggregated, the load automatically and transparently switches to the remaining good links.
