Reviewing Administration Reports

Office Live Small Business includes three different types of activities in the Administration section. You can set, modify, and manage conversion points; get code for tracking statistics on other sites; and download reports in a form usable in other business applications.

Working with Conversion Points

You can create conversion points that let site visitors know they have completed a task on your site. For example, a conversion point might say "Thanks for filling out this form" after a user enters e-mail information in an online subscription form.

To create a new conversion point, follow these steps:

  1. Click Reports in the navigation bar.

  2. Click Administration.

  3. Select Conversion Manager.

  4. In the Conversion Manager page, click New. The Add A Conversion Point page is displayed.

  5. Click in the Point Name box and type a name for the conversion point that describes the task that the user has completed (for example, "subscription complete" or "product ordered").

  6. Click in the Page URL box and type the address of the page that appears after the task is completed. For example, if you have a standard "thank you" page in your site, enter the Web address for that page.

  7. Click OK to save the conversion point.

Getting Code for Other Sites

The Get Code command enables you to copy the code your Office Live Small Business site uses to track Web statistics throughout the site. You can then paste this code on any Web page you create—even if you’ve used other Web design software. If you place the code you copy from the Get Code page at the bottom of the Web page you create, the statistics for that page will be tracked and displayed alongside your Office Live pages.

To get the tracking code, click Reports in the navigation bar and then click Administration. Click Get Code. The Get Tracking Code window appears (see Figure 6-11). Click the Highlight Code button to select the tracking code; then press Ctrl+C to copy the code to the Clipboard. Open the Web page you want to track, and paste the copied code at the bottom of the page. Save the page and publish as usual. The page will begin tracking visitor information that will be available through Office Live Small Business reporting.

Copy and paste tracking code from your Office Live Small Business site to other pages you create in other applications.

Downloading Reports

Web reports aren’t just for the Web enthusiasts in your business—they are for everyone. Financial people will want to see them. Content people will want to see them. Your mother will want to see them (really, she will). You can download your reports into a form that is easy to use in other common applications, such as Microsoft Office Excel. Here’s how to do that:

  1. Click Reports in the navigation bar and select Administration.

  2. Click Download Reports.

  3. In the Download Reports window (see Figure 6-12), select a start date and an end date.

  4. Click the check boxes of data you want to include in the report.

  5. Click Run Report.

Download site report data so that you can use it in other applications.

Office Live Small Business prepares the report and displays the File Download dialog box, asking whether you want to open or save the file. Click Save to save a copy of the file to your computer. In the Save As dialog box, navigate to the folder where you want to store the file, and click Save. The report is saved in Comma Separated Values (CSV) format, and you will be able to open the file and view it using Excel.
