Creating the content

This task requires less thinking and more doing since we have to fill in the details of our prezi.

Prepare for lift off

Use content you are allowed to use. If you use images from the Internet, make sure they are not protected by copyright licenses. Usually, you can use images from Wikipedia pages, but take careful note of the licensing conditions for every image.

We won't describe all the content we added to our prezi. We'll only show you some highlights. We'll make use of post-its to highlight important subjects of the prezi. It's a good way to focus on certain content. Perform the following steps to create the content:

  1. Select Sketched by navigating to Insert | Symbols & shapes....
  2. Drag the post-it to the canvas and resize it.
  3. Place the text on the post-it. If it's behind the post-it, use the right mouse button to choose Bring to Front.
  4. If you can replace text with images, please do so. Sometimes, it's necessary to add text to images. For instance, if you look at the four different pictures of the four groups of bees, you can't tell what kind of bees they are; then it's necessary to add text.

When you want to use pictures from Wikipedia pages, make sure you download a high resolution photo. This works as follows:

  1. Select a picture on a Wikipedia page.
  2. Now, you can look at a preview of the picture that you could download. Under the picture, you'll find various formats of picture sizes. Choose the highest resolution (or around 1000 pixels).
  3. When the pictures appear onscreen, right-click on the picture and choose Save this image as.
  4. Save the picture and add it to your prezi by navigating to Insert | Image, as shown in the next screenshot:

    Subtopic: Bees

In the next screenshot, you'll see another two post-its. However, most importantly, you'll see the big dislike thumb. This symbol works well in two ways:

  • The thumbs-down symbol means negativity or disapproval
  • The thumbs-down image is also directly linked to the subject of the decline in pollinators

    Subtopic: Pollination

In the next screenshot, which shows the subtopic Evolution, you can see that we used an arrow to symbolize the from and to states. Of course, we also added pictures to show what a wasp and a bee look like. There's not much information in this frame, but it's enough to explain the core of what we want to say.

Subtopic: Evolution

The next screenshot, which shows the subtopic Importance of bees, is even simpler. The importance is symbolized by the exclamation mark, and because it's so important, there is even less content than the other frames to make the information stand out. We also added the sources of the content to the prezi and a post-it with an assignment for the students.

Objective complete – mini debriefing

We did a good job in this task and filled our whole prezi with nice content. The prezi now looks like following:

You could stop here, but you can also go a step further and make your prezi look even better—like a real designer!
