Stage 5 – adjourning/mourning

Whether you're running long-lived product teams or running projects, all good things do eventually come to an end. And just like any form of ending, there will be a period of grief for at least some of our team members, especially if the team has lasted for a long time. 

Team members will feel conflicted about both their sense of success and sense of loss, around both the work they've been doing and the relationships they've formed. It's important that we pay attention to how we close the chapter on what may be for some, months or years of teamwork and at the same time show them the opportunity as we open the new chapter.

This will allow individual team members to move on, will reduce the amount of time they spend grieving, and enable them to remain productive during the transition phase into their new team.
