How it works...

The ping feature will send three packets from a source ESXi host to a destination ESXi host. The test results will show how many packets are transmitted, received, and lost, and the average round trip. Make sure that no packet has been lost and the status is Test Completed and not Test Failed.

To test against multiple hosts, use the broadcast feature. The broadcast test will send a broadcast packet from a source host to all hosts that have the selected particular switch within a transport zone. This can be multiple vSphere clusters. Make sure no hosts are listed under Unresponsive hosts.

If the ping/broadcast tests failed using the VXLAN standard packet size and were successful on the minimum packet size, there could be an MTU mismatch. Verify MTU on the physical network, vDS, and VTEP VMKernel.
