Registering Service Definition

The first step before we deploy a network introspection service is to register the service to the NSX Manager. This is normally done through third-party management components by registering it to the NSX Manager and vCenter server.

Refer to the hardware vendor documentation for information on how to perform the service definitions registration, as the procedure may vary from vendor to vendor.

Following are the high-level steps of the service definition registration procedure:

  1. Log in to the third-party management component.
  2. Register or connect to the vCenter server if required.
  3. Register or connect to the NSX Manager.
  4. Supply the OVF/OVA/image URL of the vendor's service VM. A separate web server might be required to host the OVF/OVA/image file.

After the third-party service has been registered, the service and vendor name, along with the functions, will be displayed in the list of services available for installation under the NSX Manager | Networking & Security | Service Definitions tab or the Service Managers tab.
