Summary

In this chapter we had the chance to play with the DataImportHandler, which is a powerful facility that is designed to configure an indexing workflow from external sources of Solr, without using external programming. In most cases, these techniques will not. However, replace the need for programming our own components or our specific workflow, but should be read more as a skeleton in which we can put our own custom configurations or components for handling our data.

We saw how DIH helps us to decouple an indexing process from external sources, such as files, mail, database, and even other Solr installations. Finally, we reviewed some of the concerns regarding performance that are often encountered while indexing large amounts of data with DataImportHandler.
