A Custom View is a way two save the current state of a visualization to reopen it later. Imagine that, in a Dashboard, you need to select different values in ten different filters to focus the visualization on what interests you. Without Custom Views, you'll have to apply the different filters each time you open the Workbook. With Custom Views, you can save a state where all the filters are applied and reopen it when you want. All the filters will be applied at once.

To add a Custom View, click on the View: Original button to open the configuration window. Here's a screenshot of the configuration window: 

This window offers the following options:

• Give a name to your Custom View.
• Make it my default—replace the Original default View with your Custom one. Each time you open the Workbook, the default Custom View opens.
• Make it public—the other Tableau Server users will be able to see and use your Custom View.
• My Views—a list of all the Custom Views you created.
• Other Views—a list of all the other public Custom Views created by other users, and the Original one. 
• With the Manage button, you can rename, delete, or hide your Custom Views.

Let's see a quick example on the Tourism View together:

1. Use the Quick Filters to start the Year Range in 2005 and select only Europe in Region.
2. Click on View: Original.
3. In the configuration window, name your Custom View Europe, starting in 2005, make it public and your default, and click on Save. The configuration window should look like the preceding screenshot used to illustrated the Custom View configuration window.
4. Get back to the list of all the Views in the Workbook.
5.  Reopen the Tourism View; you should be automatically filtered in Europe, between 2005 and 2012.

This option is a time saver when you have to apply many different filters or if a team only focuses on a subset of the data. The second feature is probably as important and useful!
