Timing Is Everything

Note that giving the user a chance to review your application at the very beginning is convenient; however, it could become inconvenient. There are some people who will never leave a review, and of these people, there is a certain percentage who will stop using your application because they are sick of being asked to review it.

Do you really want your user to say, “I’m sick of you asking me to review this application all the time! You want a review? I’ll give you a review!” I’m sure you can figure out what type of rating an agitated user will give.

In other words, you might want to stop asking for a review when you feel that you have asked enough. After that, allow the users access to your application without feeling that they have to do more. This is why the preceding code has a space for a time limit.

Yes, when it comes to marketing, it is all about reaching the right people at the right time. You might also consider other strategies of getting people to review your application, like when they are in the best possible mood or when they have reached a certain milestone in the application.

For example, if you have a gaming application, and your user/player has just reached a high score, isn’t this a great time for them to review your application?

Say you have a productivity application, and the user has just completed something interesting on it. Say he or she just edited their first document. Take advantage of their sense of accomplishment and ask the user to rate your application then.

As you might have guessed, you’ll probably have to do a lot of tweaking of the code to get it the way that you want it at the opportune time. However, getting a positive review when a user is in a good mood is worth the extra work.
