In this recipe, we listed the general steps when it comes to launching an EC2 instance. These steps may be referred to in other recipes while launching EC2 instances. Only the specific steps will be listed in each recipe. We may also generate a key pair once and then reuse it for the rest of the recipes, as long as we have access to the private key.

First, we launched an EC2 instance into a public subnet with a security group configuration that allows us to SSH from our local machine. In real-world scenarios, we generally give access to a custom range of IPs or to another dedicated machine referred to as a jump host or a bastion host. Then, we launched an EC2 instance into a private subnet with a security group configuration that only allows access from the public subnet.
