Autonomous Robotics with Intel Edison

Robotics is a branch of engineering that deals with the design, development, and
application of robots. While robots can take the form of human beings, most robots are
designed to perform a specific set of tasks, and it may just look like a machine or
anything that is not human. What we are interested in is how the Intel Edison can be used to
develop robots. This chapter will cover the autonomous aspect of robotics and will mainly
cover the following topics:

  • Architecture of a robotic system
  • Intel Edison as a controller
  • Connecting sensors with the Intel Edison
  • Calibration of sensors with real-time environment
  • Actuators: motors, servos, and so on
  • Motordrivers: Dual H bridge configuration
  • Speed control
  • Patching everything together: Line follower robot
  • More advanced line follower robots based on the PID control system

This chapter will deal with a line follower robot and will explore all the components of it and discuss some tips and tricks for advanced line following. All the code in this chapter will be written using the Arduino IDE.
