Intel Edison as a controller

Throughout the book, we have seen the use of the Intel Edison in various applications. In every case, we have stressed on the use of it as a controller because of its features. Now, in the field of robotics, we are again stressing on it as a microcontroller, but the question is, why?

Well, when we are dealing with robotics, in some cases we may need the core capabilities of the Intel Edison. The Intel Edison has a built-in BLE, Wi-Fi, and some features that make it perfect for use in robotics. The Arduino compatible expansion board allows us to use generic Arduino shields for peripherals and motor driving, while the core capabilities provide us some extra functionality for the robot, such as voice-based commands and uploading data to the cloud.

All this comes in a single unit. So, instead of using multiple peripherals, the Intel Edison provides us the flexibility to use everything under a single roof. The ability to attach a camera also adds more spice to it:
