RIP (routed)

The routed package is actually a frontend—a frontend to FreeBSD's routed daemon. To install it, navigate to System | Packages. Then, scroll down to the table listing for routed, click on the Add icon, and then when pfSense asks you to confirm installation, click on the Confirm button. Installation seldom takes more than 2 minutes.

Once routed is installed, you can begin using it by navigating to Services | RIP. The RIP configuration page has a number of options. The Enable RIP checkbox allows you to start routed, which by default is not running when RIP is first installed. The Interfaces list-box is where you choose the interfaces to which RIP will bind. Any interfaces that provide a path to another RIP-enabled router should be selected here. The RIP Version drop-down box is where you select either RIP Version 1 or RIP Version 2. The RIP daemon will advertise and listen using whichever version you select. If you use Version 2, you should specify a password in the RIPv2 password field. The no_ag option, if enabled, will turn off aggregation of subnets in RIP responses. The no_super_ag option, if enabled, turns off aggregation of super networks. When you are done making changes, click on the Save button.
