Creating SCSM console tasks

This recipe details the steps for creating a SCSM custom console task. Console tasks in SCSM provide you with a method to add quickly accessible common tasks to the SCSM console that can leverage properties of the class that they are scoped to.

Getting ready

You need to ensure you have successfully installed the SCSM product, are a user in the SCSM Administrator role, and have the SCSM console open.

You will also require the SCSM console installed on your device.

How to do it...

The following steps will guide you through the process of creating a console task:

  1. Open the SCSM Console. Navigate to Library | Tasks and click on Create Task:

How it works...

In SCSM you have a task pane on the right of all the windows in the console. Creating a custom task for the ConfigMgr remote control tool and selecting the target class of Incident scopes this task to only be visible when working with Incidents:

How it works...

Using the Insert Property button to choose the computer name supplies the name of the computer CI related to the incident as a parameter to the remote control tool, causing it to immediately try to connect when launched.
