When you see retransmissions on a communication link (to the internet, on a server, between sites, or any other link), perform the following steps:

1. Locate the problem. Is it a specific IP address, specific connection, specific application, or some other problem?
2. Check whether the problem is because of the communication link, packet loss, or a slow server or PC. Check whether the application is slow.
3. If it is not due to any of the preceding reasons, check for delay variations.
