Sapphire plug-ins include over 50 transitions consisting of various dissolves and wipes that function just like standard Avid non–real-time transitions. This exercise will cover a swish pan–style transition to familiarize you with how they work.
To add a Sapphire transition effect:
1. Using the same sequence you used in the previous section, open the Effect Palette, if it isn’t already open, and select the SAPPHIRE TRANSITIONS category.
2. Drag the S_SWISHPAN effect to the Timeline between the last two clips in the sequence as shown in Figure A.23.
3. Place the position indicator over the transition point and click the EFFECT MODE button. The Effect Preview monitor shows the effect at a midway point as seen in Figure A.24.
4. To view the effect, click the PLAY button under the Effect Preview monitor.
5. Although there are no presets for this transition, you can adjust the blur amount and the direction. Choose DIRECTION DOWN from the DIRECTION pop-up menu as shown in Figure A.25.
6. Click the PLAY button under the Effect Preview monitor to see the changed direction.
Now that you’ve added segment and transition effects from two of the larger AVX plug-in vendors, you may want to try some of the many other third-party effects as well.
