In most cases, when you try to work with a damaged database, Access will detect it and offer to repair the database. But if your database is damaged and Access does not detect it, follow these steps to repair it:
Close all databases.
Select the database you want to repair, then click Repair. Access repairs it.
After you run Repair you should always run Compact. Compacting makes a copy of your database and leaves the original. Compacting also rearranges how the database file is stored to make better use of disk space. To Compact a database, open the database and select Tools, Database Utilities, Compact Database. The compacting process is totally automatic; no other action is required.
In this lesson, you learned many ways to protect your database. In the next lesson, you will learn how to import and export data.
