Changing the Font

Unlike in other Access views (like Report and Form), you can't format individual fields or entries differently from the rest. You can choose a different font for the display, but it automatically applies to all the text in the table, including the column headings.

Font changes you make in Datasheet view will not appear in your reports, queries, or forms; they're for Datasheet view only.

Why Would I Change the Table Font?

You might want to make the font smaller so you can see more of the field contents on-screen without bothering to adjust column width. Or you might make the font larger so you can see the table more clearly.

To choose a different font, follow these steps:

  1. Select Format, Font. The Font dialog box appears (Figure 12.3).

Figure 12.3. The Font dialog box lets you set one font for the entire table.

  2. Choose a font from the Font list box.

  3. Choose a style from the Font style list box.

  4. Choose a size from the Size list box.

  5. Choose a color from the Color drop-down list.

  6. (Optional) Click the Underline check box if you want underlined text.

  7. You can see a sample of your changes in the Sample area. When you're happy with the look of the sample text, click OK.

More Cell Appearance Changes

Another way you can change the look of your table is with the Cells Effects dialog box. Select Format, Cells to see it. You can change the background color, the color of the grid lines between each row and column, and whether the lines show or not.

In this lesson, you learned how to format a table. In the next lesson, you will learn how to create a simple data entry form.
