Moving Fields

The most common change of a form is to move a field around. You might want to move several fields down so you can insert a new field, or you might want to just rearrange how the fields appear. From Form Design view, follow these steps:

  1. Click a field's name to select it. Selection handles appear around it (see Figure 14.1). You can select several fields by holding down Shift as you click each one.

  2. Position the mouse pointer so the pointer becomes a hand (see Figure 14.1). If you're moving more than one field, you can position the mouse pointer on any of the selected fields.

Figure 14.1. To move a field, first select it. Then drag it when the mouse pointer is a hand.

  3. Click and hold down the left mouse button as you drag the field to a different location.

  4. Release the mouse button when the field is at the desired new location.

The Label Moved Without the Field Attached!

Be careful when you position your mouse pointer over the field to be moved. Make sure that the mouse pointer changes to an open hand as shown in Figure 14.1. If you position the mouse pointer over the top-left selection handle for either the label or the field, the mouse pointer changes to a hand with a pointing finger, and when you drag, the label (or the field box) moves independently. This can be handy for special situations, but it's probably not what you want right now.
