Selecting Records

In addition to editing individual cells in a record, you may want to work with an entire record. To do this, click in the gray square to the left of the record (the record selection area). The entire record appears highlighted (white letters on black), as shown in Figure 11.3.

You can select several records as a group; select the first one and hold down Shift while you select the others. You can only select contiguous groups of records; you can't pick them from all over the list.

Selecting All Records

There are several quick ways to select all records at once. Click the blank box at the intersection of the row and column headings or press Ctrl+A. Or choose Edit, Select All Records from the menu bar at the top of the window.


Understanding Record Selection Symbols

When you select a record, a triangle appears in the record selection area (see Figure 11.3). There are two other symbols you might see in this area, too:

Being entered or edited

New Record

Only One Triangle

If you select several records, only the first one you click on will have the triangle symbol beside it. That doesn't matter, though; they're all equally selected.
