Chapter 3, "Configuring Gnome," explained how to configure the Gnome desktop environment to suit your personal preferences. In this chapter, you'll learn about the two alternative desktop environments that also ship with Red Hat Linux 6:

  • Another Level

  • K Desktop Environment (KDE)

This chapter begins with a discussion of the Red Hat Linux logon screen options. Next, you'll learn how to configure the alternative desktop environments to suit your desires. I'll then show you how to use come of the applications that ship with these environments, and how to access alternative environments using menus within the default environment, Gnome.

Finally, I'll show you how to handle some important administration tasks—configuring users, groups, and permissions—from within a visual environment using the Gnome control panel.
