You can use the Gnome Control Center to enable and configure multimedia support.
To enable sound support:
1. | In the Gnome Control Center, double-click Multimedia in the list at the left. This expands the category. |

3. | Select GNOME Sound Support to enable sound. |
4. | Click OK. |
To associate sounds with events:
1. | In the Gnome Control Center, double-click Multimedia in the list at the left. This expands the category. |

3. | Select Sound for Events. |
4. | Choose the Sound Events tab. A window listing events and the associated sounds will open (Figure 3.18). |
5. | To associate an event with a sound, highlight the event. |
6. | Click the Browse button to find the sound file. |
7. | To play the sound, click the Play button. |
8. | When you are satisfied with your choices, click OK. |
