How to do it...

The following steps will help you modify the DHCP scope settings to help PXE boot the ESXi hosts:

  1. On your DHCP server, bring up the DHCP snap-in.
  2. Expand the Scope corresponding to the ESXi management network's subnet.
  3. Right-click on Scope Options and click on Configure Options...:

  1. Under the General tab of the Scope Options window, scroll down and use the checkbox against 066 Boot Server Host Name to enable the option, and set the String value to the FQDN/IP address of the TFTP server:

  1. Next, enable the checkbox for 067 Bootfile Name, and set the String value to match the BIOS DHCP file name (for example, undionly.kpxe.vmware-hardwired):

  1. Click Apply and then OK to save and close the window.

This completes the process of configuring the DHCP server to facilitate the PXE boot of the ESXi hosts in an Auto Deploy environment.
