The following procedure will help you to configure UMDS so that it can download patches:
- SSH into the Linux machine running UMDS.
- Run the vmware-umds -G command to review the current configuration:
- Now, you can choose to disable patch downloads for specific host versions, for instance, vSphere 6.0, by using the vmware-umds -S -d embdeddedEsx-6.0.0 command:
- You can choose to configure a proxy for patch downloads by using the vmware-umds -p host:port command:
- Once configured, you should be able to download the patches by issuing the vmware-umds -D command:
- (Optional) You can choose to configure a cron job of the desired frequency to download the patches. The following screenshot shows an example of a weekly cron job:
