PART III: CREATIVE B&W OPPORTUNITIES

image

Workbench—This is an image of a restored Russian workbench, captured at the Fort Ross Historical Park on the Sonoma Coast of California. The restored workshop contains many historical artifacts, and the day I was there, a wonderful chiaroscuro light was playing on the tools as you can see in the image. I set my tripod up and moved quickly to avoid losing the light. In post-production, I processed the image for graphic effect rather than trying to make it look literally a photograph. My idea was to create an effect that simulated an etching from the period of the historical objects.

Nikon D300, 46mm, six exposures with shutter speeds ranging from 1/8 of a second to 25 seconds, each exposure at f/9 and ISO 100, tripod mounted; processed in ACR, HDR Efex Pro, Photoshop, Silver Efex Pro, and Topaz Simplify.
