PART I: THE MONOCHROMATIC VISION

Badlands—High above the middle fork of California’s Kings River in the late afternoon, I noticed that the dark shadows on the right side of this image mirrored and complemented the deep folds in the mountainous landscape.

Nikon D300, 190mm, 1/8000 of a second at f/7.1 and ISO 400, tripod mounted; converted to black and white using Photoshop Adjustment layers and Nik Silver Efex Pro.
