Miscellaneous educational settings

There are a number of remaining settings and parameters that might have to be configured on your system, depending on whether the functionalities will be used by your teachers and learners. These settings are:

  • Restricted access: This is a feature that's often required by course authors and teachers to set conditions to control whether an activity or resource can be accessed. By default, this is not activated; it has to be turned on by navigating to Advanced features | Enable restricted access.
  • Completion tracking: This is needed in courses if the progress of learners has to be tracked. Again, this feature is disabled by default and has to be turned on by navigating to Advanced features | Enable completion tracking.
  • Annotate PDF: Teachers have the ability to annotate PDF submissions directly in Moodle. If this is required, make sure that Ghostscript is installed on your server and the correct path is specified by going to Plugins | Activity modules | Assignment | Feedback plugins | PDF annotation.
  • Other settings: Other course-related settings can be seen by going to Courses | Course default settings, as discussed in Chapter 4, Course Management and Chapter 8, Moodle Plugins.
