Azure Service Bus use cases

There are a few common use cases for Azure Service Bus. Some of these are listed here:

  • Distributed applications: Azure Service Bus is widely used to securely connect distributed applications. Azure Service Bus removes the dependency between the sender and consumer, and anyone can be taken offline without disturbing the overall communication.
  • Message-ordered delivery: When ordered delivery is required during end-system communications, an enterprise can enable a session and implement workflows or code to maintain the order of the published data.
  • Broadcast messages with topics/subscription: You can enable a 1 to N relationship between the sender and consumer using a Service Bus topic/subscription. This gives greater flexibility when there is more than one consumer for the same instance of a message.
  • Secure transfer: Azure Service Bus communication with the publisher and subscriber is secured with Shared Access Signature (SAS). With SAS, the application is granted different access levels, such as listening to or sending a message to a Service Bus instance.

Before we explore the details of Azure Service Bus implementation and how it plays a vital role in the Microsoft Integration stack, there are some key parameters that we need to learn about. These will build our foundational knowledge to work effectively with Azure Service Bus.
