How to do it...

To create a DRS cluster, carry out the following steps:

  1. Open up vSphere Web Client and log in to the vCenter Server.
  2. Select Hosts and Clusters on the home screen.
  3. If you don't have a datacenter object, right-click on the vCenter name and select New Datacenter.
  4. Select the Datacenter object where you want to create the cluster.
  5. Right-click on the object and select New Cluster.
  6. Give a name to the new cluster and check the Turn ON DRS checkbox.
  7. Now select Automation level and Migration Threshold.
  8. Turn on vSphere HA if you wish and set its parameters.
  9. You can now select the EVC settings. If you are using homogenous hosts, then select leave EVC Disabled; otherwise, select the EVC mode that is compatible with your oldest processor.

  1. Click on OK to create the cluster.

Once the cluster has been created, you can further modify the properties of the cluster by clicking on the cluster and going to the Configure tab.
