Perform the following steps to create a scale-out cluster:
- Using vSphere Web Client, log in to the vCenter Server.
- Select the Hosts and Clusters view on the Home screen.
- Right-click on Datacenter in the Inventory tree and click on New Cluster.
- Name this cluster scale-out in Cluster Creation Wizard.
- Click on the checkbox to enable vSphere DRS.
- Click on the checkbox to enable vSphere HA. Click on OK.
- Once your cluster is created, right-click on it and select Add Host.
- Specify the hostname or IP Address of the ESXi hosts that you will select for the scale-up cluster (thick hosts) and click Next.
- Enter the username and password that vSphere will use to connect to the host, then click Next.
- Take the default settings in the next four pages, then click on Finish.
- Repeat this step for adding the rest of the scale-out hosts.
Now you are ready to create a scale-up cluster that has fewer hosts with rich configurations/capacity for your server workload.
To create a scale-up cluster, repeat the previous steps except:
- In step 4, name the cluster scale-up.
- Choose the scale-up hosts in step 10 and add subsequent hosts there.
