How to do it...

To do this, carry out the following steps:

  1. Open up vSphere Web Client and log in to the vCenter Server.
  2. Select Storage on the home screen.
  3. Click on the cluster, then go to the Datastores tab.
  4. Click on the Datastore Clusters section and then New Datastore Cluster.
  5. Give a name to this datastore cluster; leave a check mark next to Turn On Storage DRS and click Next.
  6. Select your automation level and click Next.
Manual mode indicates that Storage DRS will only make recommendations and the user will need to apply these. Fully automated means that Storage DRS will make recommendations and apply these directly by migrating VMs or virtual disks to the proposed destination datastore.
  1. Here, do not selectEnable I/O metric for SDRS recommendations.
  2. Accept all the default settings and click Next.
  3. Select the cluster to which you want to add this Datastore Cluster. Click on Next.
  4. Select the datastores that should be part of this Datastore Cluster. Click on Next.
  5. Review your selections, ensure that all the hosts are connected to the datastores in the datastore cluster, and click Finish.
  6. A datastore cluster will now be created and a new object should appear on the Datastores and Datastore Clusters view. This object should contain the selected datastores.
