How to do it…

To configure VM Monitoring while creating a vSphere HA cluster, carry out the following steps:

  1. Using vSphere Web Client, log in to the vCenter Server.
  2. Select the Hosts and Clusters view on the Home Screen.
  3. Right-click on Datacenter in the Inventory tree and click on New Cluster.
  4. Give a name to this cluster.
  5. Check Turn On vSphere DRS and vSphere HA and Turn ON boxes.
  6. Leave the default settings for the DRS Automation level.
  1. In the VM Monitoring section, select VM Monitoring Status as VM Monitoring Only (by default, it will be disabled) from the drop-down menu and select Monitoring Sensitivity:
  1. Choose the default Monitoring Sensitivity as Low, Medium, or High.
  2. Review the cluster configuration and click OK.

To configure VM Monitoring on an existing cluster, do the following:

  1. Using vSphere Web Client, log in to the vCenter Server.
  2. Select the Hosts and Clusters view on the Home Screen.
  3. Go to the Configure tab, then click on vSphere Availability under the Services section.
  4. Click on Edit at the top-right corner of the screen.
  5. Go to the Failures and Responses section.
  6. Click on VM Monitoring to enable this feature and either set the sensitivity as Preset or customize the sensitivity:
