This book covers an extremely wide range of topics. We’ve tried to provide a foundation and a summary of important facts about each kind of monitoring, as well as concrete examples and practical implementation suggestions.

There are other books that delve more deeply than we do into the individual subjects covered here. Where this is the case, we’ll point you to what we consider to be the definitive texts and websites on the topic.

We’re not going to cover how to build a website, or how to make it faster and more usable, or how to get people to talk about you. What we will do, however, is show you how to measure whether your site is fast, effective, and usable, and determine whether people are talking about you on the Web.
