Enforcing Office 365 identity for Yammer

Configuring Office 365 Identity Enforcement will update the Yammer single sign-on setup (such as replacing the legacy Yammer DSync setup) and will ensure that users log in with the Azure Active Directory ID. This is the default setting for new deployments, but migrated or legacy tenants may still need to configure this option.

To configure Office 365 identity in Yammer, follow these steps:

  1. Configure Azure Active Directory synchronization for your tenant.
  2. Add a synchronized identity to the global admins role by following these steps:
    • Log in to the Yammer network, select the gear icon to access Settings, and then select Network Admin:

    • Under Content and Security, select Security Settings.
  1. Under Office 365 Identity Enforcement, select the checkbox for Enable Office 365 Identity.
  2. Select an enforcement level (either Committed Enforcement or Temporary 7-Day Enforcement):

If you select Temporary 7-Day Enforcement, users will be configured to log in using Azure Active Directory immediately, but you can go back to this page and clear the Enable Office 365 Identity checkbox. After 7 days, however, the selection becomes permanent and you cannot back out.
  1. Optionally, select Start blocking users who don't have Yammer licenses to only enable Yammer logins for users with both Office 365 identity and an assigned license in the portal.
