Appendix B. Online Resources for Microsoft Project

This appendix includes a listing of resources on the World Wide Web related to Microsoft Office Project 2007 and project management.

Microsoft-Sponsored Resources

The following is a list of Microsoft Web sites that can provide further assistance and information in your work with Office Project 2007:

  • Microsoft Office Project Home Page www.microsoft.com/office/project. Official site for Microsoft Project. Includes sales information, product specifications, demonstrations, Help articles, templates, and downloads. It also includes links to other resources for Microsoft Project as well as project management and developer resources.

  • Microsoft Office Online http://office.microsoft.com. Official site for Microsoft Office. Contains step-by-step assistance, training modules, downloadable templates and clip art, articles, links, tools, and more for all Microsoft Office products, including Microsoft Project.

    To go to the Web site quickly, in Microsoft Project, click Help, Microsoft Office Online. Your Web browser launches and goes to the Microsoft Office Online Web site.

  • Office Online Templates http://office.microsoft.com/templates. In addition to the 41 project template files built in to Project 2007, additional project templates are continually being added to the Microsoft Office Online Web site. Some are created by Microsoft, others were suggested and added by project management experts in the field.

    To get to this Web site from Microsoft Project, click File, New. In the New Project pane, click the Templates On Office Online link. In the Search Templates box, type Microsoft Project and then click Search. In the list of templates that appears, click a template to see a preview. Click Download Now to copy the template onto your computer and into Microsoft Project.

  • Microsoft Project Knowledge Base http://support.microsoft.com/ph/11381. Microsoft Product Support Services maintains a knowledge base of articles about Microsoft Project. This Web site includes the latest news about Microsoft Project support issues, how-to articles, troubleshooting solutions, and articles categorized by Microsoft Project feature.

    You can also search the knowledge base to find answers to your specific questions about Microsoft Project or to troubleshoot a problem you’re experiencing. In the Search Support (KB) box on the left side of the page, type your keyword, phrase, or question.

  • Microsoft TechNet http://technet.microsoft.com. Microsoft TechNet includes technical articles and resources designed specifically for information technology professionals and system administrators. In the left pane, click Office Systems and then click Desktop Applications or Project Server.

    You can also search on a particular topic. In the Search box at the top of the left pane, type a keyword, phrase, or question.

  • Microsoft Download Center www.microsoft.com/downloads. The Microsoft Download Center includes resources available for you to download. To find downloads available for Microsoft Project, in the Search box, click Office. In the second search box, type Project 2007, for example, and then click Go.

  • Microsoft Communities and Discussion Groups www.microsoft.com/communities. Join an online discussion group devoted to Microsoft Project or Microsoft Office Project Server 2007. Here you can find answers to your questions, learn from questions posed by other users, and answer questions yourself. In the left pane of the Communities page, click Newsgroups. Click Office, Microsoft Project and then General Questions, Server, or Developer. Current discussions are listed.

    Also on the Communities page are blogs written by Microsoft employees, forums, technical chats, user groups, Webcasts, and other resources.

  • Microsoft Project Solution Providers http://directory.partners.extranet.microsoft.com/project/ProjectPartners.aspx. Use this site to find companies worldwide that can help you develop and implement custom project management solutions for your organization, as well as project management training services. You can search this site for a specific solution provider by name, by country, or by solution category.

  • Microsoft Developer Network http://msdn.microsoft.com/project. The Microsoft Project center within the Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) Web site contains programming guidelines, tips, and examples for developing solutions for Microsoft Project. The site includes articles of interest to developers, as well as code samples, downloads, blogs by Microsoft Project experts, and links to the Microsoft Project discussion groups. Also included are links to the Microsoft Project Software Development Kit (SDK).

  • Microsoft Office Project 2007 Software Development Kit (SDK) http://msdn.microsoft.com/project. At this URL, click the Project 2007 SDK link. The Microsoft Office Project 2007 Software Development Kit contains tools and information for Microsoft Project solution providers, value-added resellers, and other developers interested in extending and customizing the features of Project 2007, Office Project Server, Microsoft Office Project Web Access, and the enterprise project management features.

  • Microsoft Office Project Portfolio Server 2007 www.microsoft.com/office/portfolioserver. Find information about Microsoft Office Portfolio Server 2007 and its client application Microsoft Office Portfolio Web Access, separately licensed companion products to Project Server that provide complete portfolio management services as part of an integrated enterprise project management solution. On this Web site, get general information, watch an online demo, and download the product guide for more details.
