Assignment: Texture and Finish Your Castle

Using the form drawing you created of your own castle in Chapter 6: “Form,” add photographic textures and finish your castle matte painting. Follow these steps:

1. Add a stone texture to your entire structure using the Soft Light blending mode to create a varied base tone.

2. Find photographic reference to complement your design, and color correct, scale, and paint over it to enhance your vision of the castle.

3. Add a dramatic sky.

4. Use layers of color set to Multiply, or Overlay, to tint and enhance the mood of your scene.

Your finished castle matte painting will be used in the next chapter, “Preparing Your Photoshop File for Camera Projection in Maya.”
