Assignment: Take Your Own Photo From Summer to Winter

Use the skills you learned in this chapter and apply it to an image that you select, or use a subject that you photographed yourself.

Starting with a summer photograph, do the following:

1. Duplicate your original plate so that all changes are made to a copy.

2. Add a one-inch black mask around your image to add some workspace.

3. Replace or paint out any details in your image that are incompatible with your vision of the scene. You can replace the sky, unattractive sections of buildings, or incongruous elements.

4. Place all of the layers comprising your summer scene in a group.

5. Duplicate the summer scene group, and rename the duplicate to indicate it is the winter version.

6. Remove any green from the scene, and replace it with snow using the techniques described in the chapter.

7. If you are also taking your scene to dusk, add a blue multiply layer to darken it, and add illuminated windows.
